Cryptocurrency prices today: Top cryptocurrency prices today: Terra bleeds 9%, Bitcoin, Ethereum follow with 4% drop

NEW DELHI: Cryptocurrency counters bled on Tuesday as they saw the profit booking after buying seen in the previous session. A lot of money moving into equities could have had an impact on cryptocurrencies as well.

In dollar terms, in the top 10 tokens, Terra was the biggest loser, down almost 9%. Bitcoin fell around 4% while Ether also fell 4%. Polkadot and Solana were also among the big losers.

Even in terms of rupees, almost all cryptocurrencies were trading at discounts, data available on WazirX showed. Shiba Inu, Bitcoin, Dogecoin and Polkadot were among the theories that were down as much as 5%.

“The steady range-bound momentum has continued in the cryptocurrency market. Bitcoin faced downside pressure after breaking through the $51,000 mark and falling below $50,000. Most other altcoins also saw marginal sales. This should continue in the coming days,” said Edul Patel, CEO and co-founder of Murex.

For cryptocurrencies, 2021 has been a year of reckoning as it has seen a horde of new investors. But opposition from India’s central bank has also grown stronger. Now the debate is whether to regulate it or ban it.

Earlier, a government bulletin stated that the Cryptocurrency and Official Digital Currency Regulation Bill, 2021 seeks to ban all private cryptocurrencies in India. However, it does allow some exceptions to promote the underlying cryptocurrency technology and its uses. But the bill has yet to see the light of day.

The global crypto market capitalization increased by 4.21%, to $2.30 trillion from the last day. The total crypto market volume soared around 30% to $92.62 billion.
